Website of the Week – HubbleSite.org
The Hubble Space Telescope has provided astounding images of space since it was launched in 1990. Even in it’s early years, when they found a mistake in the glass, they still gained amazing pictures of far off galaxies. Today, the telescope constantly kicks out colorful images of what we could never hope to see with the human eye within our lifetime. HubbleSite.org is devoted to keeping the thrill alive for astronomers of all ages, highlighting great pictures, but also exploring the science of astronomy, which has been followed since the dawn of time. Rich with science information, and vibrant with the colors from images that are awesome, you can’t help but be drawn back time and time again!
Excerpt from the Lion King
Pumbaa: Hey, Timon, ever wonder what those sparkly dots are up there?
Timon: Pumbaa, I don’t wonder; I know.
Pumbaa: Oh. What are they?
Timon: They’re fireflies. Fireflies that, uh… got stuck up on that big bluish-black thing.
Pumbaa: Oh, gee. I always thought they were balls of gas burning billions of miles away.
Timon: Pumbaa, with you, everything’s gas.
