I had a feeling something like this was going on. We see pictures of idyllic lives, of photoshopped realities, and they get wrapped up in a cocoon where you can’t see the behind the scenes… and you look at your own reality which can’t hope to compare… and where are your thoughts going to go? Towards depression. Interestingly, I think we’re also seeing a greater rise in cynicism as youth interpret and determine how many false Facebook lives are out there.

An increase of as little as one hour of social media interaction from normal levels would result in a measurable increase in depression, the study found. (Researchers found no correlation, it’s worth noting, between signs of depression and video games.)
