When a country starts looking to control the flow of information, it does not bode well. Yes, this may be what it looks like on the surface, a way to protect their part of the Internet from hackers, but many countries have censored traffic, or cut it off completely. Russia has not been known to be favorable to dissidents, and we can look to China today to see a glimpse of Russia’s past.
The nascent RuNet is meant to allow the country to survive an attack — and Putin to monitor and control his subjects.
