So few people know the 4th Amendment covers “papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures”. This idea is a bad one, but I think it’s being presented like some bills, with little chance of passing, just to gain attention. Further, it allows for fishing expeditions by police, which is also not allowed. It’s a recurring theme, and I fear for the day when something like this does pass, allowing access to all of our data without warrant.
It’s the latest attempt to force tech companies to add a backdoor to encrypted services.
