We think of some cybercrime as being small time crooks, leveraging a few dollars here and there, but the world is evolving. Depending on the target, some networks are being broken into, just for access that can be resold. Access to your company network could be sold for the average price of $7000. This illicit access can then be used, of course, to leverage you through ransomware for much more. This service is just one of many middle-man practices that don’t commit, and only enable the criminal to commit the crime.
A growing category of cyber-crime consists of breaking into corporate networks and doing nothing else – except selling that illicit access to others for about $7,000 a go, says infosec biz Digital Shadows.
