The FCC is moving into an area that I don’t think is government overreach, scary, or even wrong. They are looking at rules to ensure that suicide prevention is available through 988, not just by voice, which is still in progress, but by text as well. I applaud these efforts to help people who may have problems communicating, who need help quietly, or may just prefer a non-verbal communication method.
The agency’s chief says the goal is to make it easy for vulnerable communities to reach help.
