Google is taking on a dangerous game, paying people based not on their title, job, or value, but based on where they live or move to. Worse yet, if a worker is in Stamford, Connecticut, and skips the 1 hour train ride, they will have a 15% cut in pay, but a coworker who lives local would not take the hit. Some of the paycuts are as much as 25%. This could backfire as talent is taken away for other lucrative jobs… or as people realize that Google, with all it’s money, doesn’t really care about their workers.
