Imagine finding out that your car radio wouldn’t work if you didn’t use Phillips 66 gas in your car. Imagine if your fridge wouldn’t dispense ice out of the icemaker, if you didn’t have Blue Bonnet margarine on the shelf. Canon is facing a lawsuit over it’s all-in-one’s where the fax and scan processes are shutdown if you have little to no ink. Ink isn’t even required for those functions, just as specific gas or margarine brands aren’t needed for cars or fridges to do unrelated functions. I’m on board with this lawsuit, and I can’t imagine any courts siding with Canon on this one. A class action lawsuit will amount to a few dollars for a product that is destined for the dustbin, but…

Canon USA has been accused of forcing customers to buy ink cartridges when they only want to scan and fax documents using the manufacturer’s so-called All-In-One multi-function printers.
