William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk, finally made it to space this past week. Upon his return to earth, and even from videos in space, it seems that he was speechless, and sometimes almost incoherent until moving forward. it was clear that he experienced something called the overview effect, something that has happened with other astronauts. This experience is a cognitive shift in awareness of realizing just how small earth is, and how we tend to take things for granted. Shatner’s trip to space, and the coming discussions by him may actually help the industry.
