Yet another tale of rip-offs has been resolved. Amazon does some amazing things, but then there’s the darker side. In 2016, Amazon changes how drivers were getting paid… instead of hours plus tips, they introduced a variable base pay. That variable rate pay meant that for 2 1/2 years, they would skip about 1/3rd of the tips to pay the drivers wages. Now 140,000 drivers will be getting their full compensation in the coming months. Interesting, however, is that they have just 2 months to cash the checks. Amazon is prohibited from a number of actions as part of the settlement, but will that stop them?
America’s consumer watchdog has sent checks totaling nearly $60m to more than 140,000 Amazon drivers who were said to have been screwed out of their tips between 2016 and 2019. The delivery workers have until January to cash them.
