Hackers pretend to be other people. Both Meta and Apple learned that the hard way, as news has come out that hackers pretended to be cops. In the follow-ujp of the extange, the hackers forged legal requests in an attempt to obtain information. One of the ongoing tragedies when we learn of these holes, is playing out again, and Apple and Meta aren’t admitting if they provided information to the hackers. Instead, they talked about safeguards, how they work to prevent, and then spin to say that they cooperated in catching the hackers.
