Apple is now offering an iPhone Self Service Repair program. They’ll provide tools for you at $49 a week including shipping. They will place a hold on your credit card for the price of the total kit (around $1000)… but this isn’t small. The kit weighs 79 pounds, and does not include the parts you are replacing. Still, you’ll be replacing the parts with Apple parts at Apple prices. You also have to read the manual to lookup specific information to prove that you know how to read the manual, and they’ll also ask for your IMEI number. A display from Apple is about $300. Perhaps at that point, it’s worth just buying a new phone.

Apple hasn’t exactly skimped on the tools it provides in its new iPhone Self Service Repair program, but at 79 pounds, it’s not what you’d call a practical kit for home use.
