You think your video from your video doorbell is safe? Nope, again, it seems that Amazon has been working to not only ignore privacy, but instead, lobby for removal of privacy laws in 25 different states. While Ring policy (Ring is owned by Amazon) does say they can share data, police in over 2,000 departments are on the Neighbors app for sharing video data. Sure, it’s outside your home, but it’s a little creepy to know the cops are tracking your coming and going.
In case anyone needed reminding that using Amazon hardware is tantamount to bugging your own home, it’s now emerged that the web giant has been handing over Ring doorbell videos to police without owners’ consent. Happy Prime Day!
