Imagine holding a job for 50 years. One of the nerdiest jobs ever, too. Ed Stone started working for NASA in 1972, and signed onto the Voyager program then. Both spacecraft, Voyager 1 and 2, are the first time that humankind has reached outside of the basic solar system as we think of it. Astronomers and more nerds will have more knowledge on that, but it works for now. Ed Stone, in the past 50 years, is the only person to have been in charge of the program… but is now retiring. There’s a lot more to the Voyager program, and if you’ve never looked it up on Wikipedia… it’s worth the time spent looking up the information.
The Voyager mission’s project scientist has retired after 50 years in the job.
