In recent years, we have railed against the idea of subscription fees for features that are already built into your car. Heated seats that exist, but you have to may a monthly fee for. Driver assist features that disappear when a new owner buys the car. Now, Mercede’s has announced a subscription fee for increased horsepower on their electric vehicles. Yep, you’ll pat an extra $100 a month to increase horsepower and improve acceleration. It’s already there in the car, just a change of a bit or a byte to ramp in the new power. Worse yet, that means that if you don’t pay, Mercede’s is intentionally crippling your car aware from power that’s actually already built-in.
Mercedes is now offering an acceleration increase for its electric models for an additional $1,200 yearly payment.
