Microsoft is pushing through some reductions, and is laying off about 5% of their staff, which equates to 10,000 employees. This is something that will take place over the next couple of months, and will include soem healthy severance packages as Microsoft plans to spend $1.2 Billion in a restructuring. They have done this before, with the spindown of Nokia, for instance. This is being blamed on customers performing an “optimization” of their “digital spend”, but also a need to keep pace with the future of technologies like AI, and so forth.

Citing a need to “align our cost structure with our revenue and where we see customer demand,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told employees Wednesday that the company will cut 10,000 jobs between now and the end of March.
