Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and a number of other big names have signed on a letter encouraging a short pause to the development of large-scale AI. The concerns raised are about how we don’t really understand some of the problems that may be ahead, that creators are chasing after more AI without thinking through consequences. Further, that nobody can understand, predict, or reliably control AI. In our quest for knowledge, and a race for bigger, better, and faster, it is expected that this will fall on deaf ears. Further, with this being already open source, with offerings available for running some level of this on your own computer, this plea, this letter calling for a short reflection period, is unexpected to really slow anyone down.
A group of well-known AI researchers, including Elon Musk, have called for a halt to the development of large-scale AI systems, citing concerns over their impact on society.
