Ford has a new patent that would allow for various options of repossession of the car you purchased from them. OK, Joe didn’t pay his monthly payment… first we’ll turn off his A/C… in Arizona. Or let’s remove some of the farous features like GPS, radio, cruise control, or power seats. Nope, that didn’t work, so let’s wait until he’s out to dinner with his girlfriend. Yep, that self-driving car can now drive to the nearest dealer, or at least to a nearby tow truck. OK, they have specifically called out exceptions, where people can tell the car that someone is having a medical emergency. It’ll be interesting to see if they actually get this, or use it.
Ford’s proposed system would allow your car to lock itself, disable certain features, and even drive itself autonomously to an impound lot.
