Parmigiano Reggiano is getting into high tech. Nope, no cheesy jokes here. They are putting QR codes and microchips onto the big wheels of cheese for authentication. You think it kinda silly, right? Putting aside the Kraft, and the stuff that says parmesean, or a few other end-runs… the counterfeit Parm industry, pretending to be the real Italian stuff, is a $2 Billion hit against the originators. This high-tech trick is new stuff to a 900 year old industry, and we should be glad they are working to protect our tastebuds. Oh, and if you’ve always had the green plastic bottle version, you’ve got no idea what you’re missing!

How bad is it? The Italians have begun microchipping cheese to slow down imposters.
