I loathe the idea of data caps for broadband. Unlimited data should be exactly that. I will admit that it does create problems when some users are MASSIVE overusers. There are legitimate times when some people need the additional data for a short period of time. Some of the most important video games reach well over 100GB in size, and updating a new computer may require brand new installs. The FCC getting involved, however, is something that I’m not keen on. They are announcing a proposal to investigate these limits, and are asking for public comment. Of course, they also have to figure out if they have standing to even change anything.
FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel is proposing the FCC investigate the effect of data caps on customers, particularly the disadvantaged, as well as access to public safety services and more.
