The moon lander at the South Pole of the moon arrived, and then during during a non-sun phase, they put it to sleep. Unfortunately, the sun arrived and it was time to wake up, and the mission remained incommunicado. This does not bode well, but there are hopes by ISRO, the Indian version of NASA, that they’ll get communication after batteries charge. This is a situation that is subject to change, and I pray for their success on bringing this back. Still, it’s a massive success for their program, after they beat everyone to the punch. The overall hope for us is to find out if there’s large amounts of ice, which makes our own future NASA trips more exciting for longer term resources for water, oxygen, and hydrogen, elements that make a long term stay easier.
Chandrayaan-3 made history, but any hope for an extended mission is fading fast.
