The latest data on CarPlay and Android Auto, is rather unexpected. Edison Research looked at people 13 and older on how they spend time listening in their car. While people are using it a little more for streaming audio, podcasts, or other high-tech purposes, nearly half are still listening to AM/FM radio. The 46% of them is lower than the 67% without the high-tech smartphone software in the car, but it’s telling that standard broadcast radio still has a hold on the listener. This was exciting for someone like me, who is a radio broadcaster. Yes, it’s a drop-off, but it isn’t the bad news that everyone thought it might turn into.
