An exciting twist this week from Apple was that RCS is coming to the iPhones, and probably very soon. The Rich Communication Services message standard has been around for a while, and the other manufacturers have been pushing hard for Apple to adopt this. The benefits on both sides of this include better communications on some of the features that have worked on the platforms separately. Those features include read receipts, higher quality video and images, as well as typing indicators. This cooperation also gives us all the opportunity to see more exciting features coming in the future.
In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users.
