An Op-Ed from Axois is linked in the news on Computer Talk Radio. Biggest highlight… we need to stop giving credit to AI. AI is not a self-executing technology. Simply, it’s software tool designed and directed by people. The capabilities and goals are given designers, and when we ascribe independence and autonomy to technology, the easier it becomes for those developers to avoid responsibility for impacts and errors. Garbage in, garbage out is an old tech term. AI makers enjoy this illusion to cover their inability to fully understand or explain the output of their tools. We need to recognize it for what it is… a label used by slick salespeople to add mystique to a normal process that isn’t working as well as promised.
We should think of the technology less as a robot and more as a puppet.
