Again, we are hearing about a government purchase of our data. The NSA has been buying up our internet records, and spying on us for their various purposes. The data involved is “commercially available information”, but does that make it right? The defense of this action is offered up that if other people can buy it, why shouldn’t our own government have it. They throw around other claims that it’s no different from metadata, that this is all critical for the US Defence Industrial Base, and they don’t touch some specific areas of data. My concern is that there seems to be too much spin on this, about how this is just fine, and people need to not worry their pretty little heads over it.
