You know those codes you get for digital copies of movies? Sony is merging its anime streaming services, Funimation and Crunchyroll. Funimation had said for years that anyone with DVDs and digital codes could keep their digital copies “forever.” However, with the upcoming merge on April 2, Funimation’s digital library will become inaccessible, and accounts will transfer to Crunchyroll, which doesn’t support the Funimation digital copies. This goes right along with the age-old trouble that we appear to no longer be owners of what we buy, but merely temporary authorized users.

Casualties afoot as Sony merges Funimation with 2021-acquired Crunchyroll.
