File this under “what took them so long?” Apparently, this week, Airbnb announced changes to its policy, banning hosts from using indoor security cameras starting April 30. This move comes after concerns about privacy and the misuse of cameras to spy on guests. Hosts must now also inform guests about any outdoor surveillance before booking. This decision aims to enhance privacy and safety for guests, responding to criticism and calls for greater respect for personal space during stays. Considering all of the bad publicity, the intrusions on people’s lives, and more, it seems just downright weird. And why wait another 45 days to take effect?

Starting at the end of April, Airbnb will no longer allow hosts to have security cameras inside their rental properties, citing a commitment to prioritizing guest privacy.
