Verizon does phone service well. They don’t do other ventures anywhere near as well. In 2015 they bought AOL… remember them? Most people had forgotten them, but Verizon bought them. Also bought Yahoo in 2016… after most people had moved on. I joked about it at the time, but they had grandiose ideas. Just a few years later, they are selling both for half of what they paid… to a guy in Vegas. No joke, the folks who own the Venetian, now own two old tech properties they can flaunt like the expensive artwork in their on-site galleries. I’m not sure who to feel most sorry for…

Verizon has sold its Aol and Yahoo properties to Apollo Global Management in a deal said to be worth about half of the $8.9 billion Verizon originally paid for the two properties. Thus brings an end to Verizon’s troubled experiment with media production and advertising.
