The Federal Trade Commission is going after Intuit over the idea of “free” (in quotes) Turbo Tax. Apparently, Intuit was charging 2/3rds of the people who were actually already entitled for free filings. Intuit claimed that they don’t really need to bother, as an earlier settlement already provided refunds. The ongoing issue will continue, however, in part, because Intuit has been provided Federal funds to offer up these services to low-iincome persons. The FTC is asking for an immediate halt to advertising about Intuit, and for this to continue forward.
The FTC is pressing ahead with its allegations of false advertising against Turbo Tax maker Intuit after a brief pause in proceedings.
