Meta keeps getting hit for problems. The one-time darling that could do little wrong, has now been hit for a $400 million fine for failing to protect kids privacy on Instagram. Accounts of 13 to 17 year olds were apparently set to public as default, and the Irish Data Protection Commission, which serves the needs of the EU, delivered that smackdown. Apparently, Instagram has also allowed children to setup business accounts, leading to more problems. Full details are coming, so we may also revisit this in a week.
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission has doled out a total of $686 million in fines to Meta over the past two years.
