Last weeks news of Microsoft layoffs is starting to become even more clear. The Microsoft Surface is experiencing a major hit, as the Microsoft Devices revenue is down 39%. Same with Windows OEM, the licensing of Windows Operating Systems. Xbox, down 13%, and this is all being blamed on the “next major wave of computing being born”. That next wave is AI computing, and Microsoft is looking to brand themselves as being at the heart of this.
Microsoft’s balance sheet from the first quarter of 2022 tells a familiar tale: cloud revenues up, PCs struggle. But this time, PCs are really, really, suffering, as is Surface.
