Due to some issues with a return trip, NASA astronaut Frank Rubio will soon be logging the most time for a US astronaut in space. He’s about to hit a year, and will be only one of six at that point. Part of this comes from the Soyuz capsule that brought him to the ISS developed a leak. The earliest he’ll set foot back on Terra will be September 27, but space travel is a very finicky thing still, with delays and setbacks usually taken very liberally to ensure safety for all concerned. As with most astronauts, there’s plenty of time to explore science in space, and keep us enthralled with the ideas of what could be.
The astronaut was stranded on board the ISS after a Russian Soyuz spacecraft suffered a coolant leak, setting the stage for a prolonged mission.
