We’ve talked about this on the show as Covid changed how we were looking at menu’s in restaurants. QR codes were setup for malicious ways, from diversion from where you wanted to go, all the way to pointing you to malware. We finally received a word for it, called Quishing, to match the long held term, Phishing. Of course there’s Vishing, Smishing, and more, but this is, as I’ve mentioned, QR codes. Your basic safety is only to scan a QR code when you trust the person who is providing it. On every table in a reputable restaurant, and in places where the official representative is nearby, but otherwise… avoid the QR code conundrum.
Cybercrime always seems to find a new way to take advantage of modern technologies and now QR codes are the next it thing.
