A newly found Apple patent suggests something a bit odd, a tilting feature to your mouse. The idea is simple, in that you’ll be able to roll your mouse left or right to varying degrees, much like we move them back and forth around our desk. The text suggests rotation as well, and all of these different movements could increase functionality. I am intrigued, however, as HP and another company, have items called Spaceball, or Spacemouse, that are in heavy usage in the CAD community, that closely match the same technology. It’s going to be interesting when Apple moves forward, but then again, a Xerox mouse was invented in 1972, before either Microsoft or Apple even existed.

Forty years after it popularized the mouse, Apple is researching a replacement that users can tilt or take off the desk entirely to move their cursor around.
