Great timing on this one. The IRS announced right after tax day that they are starting to use AI on two fronts. First, a chatbot. Second, determining who to audit next. Yeah, this is about statistics, and finding issues, but this is never what we want to hear… our government is investing in more ways to chase after us for that 12 cent error four years ago. I’m starting to wish that we’d find ways for our government to serve the greater interests of the populace than simple chatbots. At what point is technology in government supposed to serve us? Tell us how the IRS found issues and would like to send us back money. Tell us how government agencies are overspending, and how we can correct that. Something…

IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel opined about the agency’s current and future use of AI just days after Tax Day.
