Amazon Prime Day was this past week, and as expected, they drove lots of bargains. Numbers from Adobe Analytics estimated the end volume at around $14.2 billion, up 11% over the previous year. This 3rd party information is important, as Amazon usually doesn’t talk much about their own numbers. Lots of interest came in back-to-school shopping, but also seemed to be heavy in tech like TVs, tablets, and Bluetooth speakers. Big ticket purchases were lower, and same with multiple orders by the same people, but it seemed to bring far more customers. This was the 9th year of this event, and it’s not looking like it’s going away for a long time to come.
Consumer electronics and back-to-school products were among the top categories.
