This week, in the aftermath of the Crowdstrike blue screen failures, which I’ll talk about later, we were served with another reminder of testing updates. A nationwide AT&T outage back in February, resulted from a botched network update, impacting 91 million phone calls, 25,000 calls to 911. All of these outages underscore the vulnerability of modern communication infrastructure and the need for following accepted practices, and stringent oversight of updates. Further, in IT, we should be putting efforts in place to slow down the tide of our updates and changes that have wide impact, and potentially serious repercussions.
