NASA pulled the plug on an upcoming moon mission called VIPER, short for Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover. It was slated for hitting the Moon’s south pole late next year, in an attempt to find valuable natural resources. The rover already set NASA back by $450 million, and was a subsection of the Artemis program. The plans are to reuse portions of the Rover’s key systems, but this is a distinct hit blamed on manufacturing setbacks and increasing costs. This didn’t appear to have impacts on the remainder of the Artemis program, but is disconcerting for those who follow our plans for space.
NASA announced the cancellation of a major mission to the moon that was slated for 2025. The US space agency cited costs and major delays that have occurred since announcing the venture.
