The Federal Trade Commission unanimously voted this week to outlaw fake reviews and misleading marketing tactics. Starting mid-October, companies can’t use AI or pay for phony reviews, which can deceive shoppers and harm fair competition. FTC Chair Lina Khan emphasized the rule’s goal to clean up online marketplaces from deceptive practices, ensuring consumers make informed choices without falling for fake praise or manipulated ratings. This, of course, applies to all media, and Computer Talk Radio is no different. We are very open about our review policies, and this week, I’ll close out the show with a quick commentary on that policy.

Amazon sued more than 10,000 Facebook group administrators in July 2022 for allegedly brokering fake reviews.
