Windows Recall was a feature that Microsoft introduced, then pulled, then said was delayed? It’s back. The feature takes snapshots of your machine constantly, filing it, categorizing it, and otherwise holding on to it, purportedly to help you remember things. They’ve promised the first preview of this feature for Windows 11 in October. Microsoft claims they have been focusing hard on making it safe, especially after folks called it spyware. The potential for this to be hackable, to be abused, to show all that we have done is hair-raising. It’s said that you’ll be able to turn it off, but we know from past history that various spy options often are turned on again after we turn them off.
Windows Recall is still on track to enter public testing this year, and the first Windows 11 preview builds with Recall will begin rolling out to Insiders in October.
