I’m concerned. The Boeing Starliner was supposed to be at the ISS for a week. We are at 8 weeks in, after they already had numerous problems moving to launch. The statement from Boeing and Nasa on June 28 was “Our plan is to return them on Starliner and return them home at the right time.” Don’t get me wrong, I want to see them home safe, but for once, NASA and Boeing seem to have far exceeded plans, and it feels more dire than the “oh, everything’s fine”. Worse news for Boeing came this week as news arrived that the rival, SpaceX Dragon Crew capsule is half the cost of the Boeing Starliner. One of these has been to space about 9 times without problems, and the other is on their maiden voyage, stuck to the side of the ISS while people are scrambling to test new options on the ground.
Eight weeks after they launched, two NASA astronauts are still waiting aboard the space station as engineers try to address issues with Boeing’s spaceship.
