42 states are approaching Congress through their attorneys general, to develop a federal effort to add a warning to social media platforms. This is after lawsuits were filed last year against Meta and TikTok for their own harmful product features. There’s a lot to this, as we know that youth are impressionable, but I’m not sure that a warning will slow things down. I’m not sure government intervention is the solution. This takes parents informing youth of concerns and hazards, but also how to deal with many of the different manipulations, deceptive patterns, and addiction all driven through the technology world.

A surgeon general’s warning label requires congressional action.
