In an increasing lockdown, isolating us from technology from other countries, the White House proposed a ban on Chinese hardware and software for cars. The software is reported to not be much of an issue, but many of our sensors, Bluetooth devices, and other chipsets are made in China. The claimed concern is over the ability to spy on all of our infrastructure across the country, like Google Maps isn’t already documenting all of that. This follows the path blazed by bans on Huawai and ZTE phones, and the current struggles with DJI drones. There likely will be hurdles, discussions, and exceptions coming in the final wording and outcome, but it’s on the roadmap for now.
