In a quest to drive more ad monies, YouTube is now rolling out Pause ads widely. This means when you hit pause on a video, you might see an ad pop up, adding to the multiple unskippable ads during playback. YouTube says these ads are “non-interruptive,” designed to again pressure more users towards subscribing to YouTube Premium. If I hit pause, I want things to pause, not change to something else. Forget the nuisance, there are times where trying to understand the material that you are watching takes a moment, and I shouldn’t be bombarded by more distractions. Whether this will lead to fewer interruptions during videos remains unclear, though.
