The last time I got a passport, it was a half day affair. I had to travel to the offices, fill out paperwork, stand in a bunch of different lines, get a picture taken, and so forth. This past week, it was announced that the process for renewal will be much easier, as they are now allowing it to be renewed online. There are a number of conditions to this, so first timers, children, and items like diplomatic passports will not qualify. If you need a new one, it may be worth checking with the State Department website, and seeing if you’re eligible for the online renewal.
The online renewal process has been faster than the advertised six- to eight-week processing time.
