The Department of Justice is going after Google again. The latest is a pitch to break up Google over the search monopoly, but also would impact many other services that Google has brought under it’s vast reaches. I’m not sure how this would even be accomplished, and even the DOJ has noted that unwinding this could take time. Along the way, they appear to be seeking to prevent Google from using their various products to force users back into the Google infrastructure for more data. Some might say Google is self-serving, but their market share has been hovering around 90% for 15 years straight.
Google says it’s “concerned the DOJ is already signaling requests that go far beyond the specific legal issues in this case.”
