The Nobel prize for physics was announced this week for two scientists, for their work in the world of machine learning (aka AI). Ironically enough, one of them has been rather negative in recent years, leaving Google over the dangers of machines that could someday outsmart humans. Even in the awarding of this prize, even the chair of the committee acknowledged “concerns about our future collectively”. Professor Hinton may go down as being one of the parallels to Nobel, who started the prize after regretting his own invention, dynamite, and the potential negative impacts on the world for doing such.
