The world of AI, no matter what brand name is attached, is running into deeper trouble. This week, I saw no less than a dozen articles decrying the constant usage of the term. One particular opinion piece compared what they referred to as the AI bubble, to the dot-com bubble from about 25 years ago. Media is talking about AI forecasting of the coming election, claiming their own algorithm is best. Manufacturers are slapping the AI label on everything. AI claims of success are being investigated by accounting firms. The numbers are not pretty, with OpenAI being valued at $157 billion, while all generative AI revenues are running less than $10 billion.
Two different bubbles and two completely different revenue streams mean only one thing.
