The Babylon Bee, a conservative leaning satirical website, threw a lawsuit at California over three new laws. One was in regards to labelling all political deepfakes clearly, which might run counter to over-the-top sarcasm or parody. Another is in regards to requiring large online platforms like Facebook, to strike down “materially deceptive content”, even if it’s reasonably obvious satire. The clear problem is that these laws amount to a potential for abuse with people who have political agendas, allowing some satire, but not others, allowing Saturday Night Live to pillory a candidate, but not a website. Of course, I’m completely in favor of censorship, and have been for… oh wait, I need to label this statement as satire. UGH!
