For a long time, the US has been relying upon China for rare earth minerals. Some of these have uninteresting, near unpronounceable names, but they are used in most of modern technology. Neodymium is just one, and is used to make high power magnets. Rare-earth minerals aren’t so much rare, but they require large amounts of processing, so the goal is to find more pure deposits other than China. A company in Wyoming just discovered a massive 2 Billion ton jackpot that may alleviate our reliance on other countries, and others are finding more. This is exciting, as China currently provides 90% of these minerals to the world, as our largest known US deposit of rare-earth metals before this was about 19 million tons located in Mountain Pass, CA.

The United States might have just found a new path to financial strength after a discovery of incredibly rare materials was made in the country.
